KEY PERSON APPROACH
Each child is allocated a key person when they start at Little St Mary’s Pre-School. The key person’s first role is to help settle the child into the group, getting to know both the child and their family. The key person works with the parents to build relationships and identify each child’s needs and interests.
The progress check at age 2
A 2 year check is carried out for all 2 year olds and also a Baseline check when all children start Pre-School. These show their stage of development in Communication & Language, Physical Development and Social & Emotional Development. Progress checks (Assessments) are carried out at the end of each term until the child moves on to school. This is carried out by the child’s key person when the child has reached the age of 30 – 36 months. Parents are invited to discuss the report and contribute suggestions of next steps.
We maintain the ratio of adults to children in the setting that is set by the Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements. 2 year olds = 1 adult per 4 children, 3 years and above 1 adult per 8 children. We also have volunteers and parent helpers, where possible, to complement these ratios.
